Wilmette Baseball: Introduction to Baseball

This league is focused on learning the FUNdamentals of the game and is open to all children currently enrolled in the first grade only.

Each team will consist of approximately 12 players, 1 manager and 2 assistant coaches. Objectives are to improve basic skills – throwing, catching, batting, and base-running – and to develop an atmosphere of fun while learning the game.

Practices start in early-April; games start in mid-April; the season ends in mid-June. Practices and games will be held once a week; practices are Saturday or Sunday (not to conflict with park district soccer) and games are played Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Coaches will pitch to all batters, with a tee available for those needing it. No score will be kept and all players will bat each inning. All players will play in the field, but positions will be rotated so each child will have an opportunity to play multiple positions.

For this league only, players may make a request for two (2) friends on any team (use Notes on online registration form). We will make every attempt to fulfill your request. Most teams are comprised of players from 2-3 grade schools. Players are assigned & teams finalized by the end of March.
